"What are you thinking?" he murmured into her ear. "I'm thinking it's been a lovely evening." He grinned. "It has, hasn't it. Dining. Dancing. A stroll in the moonlight." He looked up at the night sky, but neither the moon or any stars could be seen. "Well, a stroll, anyway." She rubbed her hands along his arms. "It's been perfect, so far..." She got a wicked gleam in her eye. "You have other ideas?" he asked. She rolled her eyes. 'Sometimes he can be just one umbrella short of a cocktail.' "I have very specific ideas, Mr. Knight." "Oh?" 'At least his voice indicates some level of interest,' she thought. He gave her a squeeze. "And what would those ideas be?" Before she could answer, they were distracted as someone came crashing through the bushes that lined the path they were standing on. The intruder, a woman, tumbled to the ground. Natalie slipped out of Nick's grasp and helped her to her feet. "Hello," said the stranger. "I'm not interrupting much, am I?" "Excuse me?" Natalie look at the woman. The stranger was attired in clothes that would be more comfortable in one-hundred degree heat than a cool Toronto evening. "I knew I'd find you here." "Who are you?" asked Nick. "Hi Nick," she responded. "I'm an old friend of yours." Natalie glared at Nick. "I've never seen that woman before," he said, pointing at the interloper. "And you know I'd remember." The woman chuckled. "Technically, he is right, Natalie." Nat interrupted the stranger. "Excuse me?" "Oh, sorry. Doctor Lambert." Natalie shrugged. "I don't know you, either." "I'm JodySue," said the woman. She smiled, as if that pronouncement would clear up everything. Natalie took a step back from the woman. "And?" The woman crossed her hands across her chest. "And I'm waiting." "For?" asked Nick. He took Natalie's hand into his own, pulling her closer. The woman started tapping her foot. "For you two to have sex, of course. I want smut!" Natalie turned bright red. Nick, however, could feel his anger growing. "How dare you..." "Look," she said, holding up her hands in a gesture of peace. "I just want you two to be happy." "We are happy," said Nick. "We're very secure in our platonic relationship." "Oh please," said JodySue. "Can't you see the way this woman looks at you, fawns over you. You're a detective, get a klew. She wants to get physical, physical." Nick looked at Natalie but she just looked away. "And Nat, either get him to commit or kick him to the curb. You're not immortal." The woman took Natalie's other hand, patting the back of it in a patronizing manner. "And you're not getting any younger." Natalie pulled her hand from the stranger's grasp and glared at the woman. "You have no right to infer anything of our relationship." "Nat, I'm sure she just means well," offered Nick. Now that he had a few minutes to think about it, he found he rather enjoyed the idea of being intimate with Natalie. He wondered why he hadn't thought of it sooner. "If she doesn't want you, Nick, I'm available." The woman sidled up to Nick and pinched his bottom. Natalie pulled her hand from Nick's. "You want smut? Take him. You two are obviously far better acquainted than you let on." She turned and walked away. Nick looked at the woman. "I'm sorry, but I must be going." "Are you sure? The offer is open, you know?" She tried to flash a flirtatious smile at him but it really wasn't having any affect. "Maybe later I could stop by..." The woman's voice trailed off. She could hear Nick's shouts, "Nat! Natalie?" as he chased after the departing figure. JodySue plopped down on the park bench. She crossed her legs, placing her chin on one hand. "Oh well. I wonder if LaCroix is busy tonight."
