Clark Nick crept down the stairs. He'd just awoken from a dream. The dream was intense -- and arousing. Also disturbing. There was so much in this life that was wrong, seemed wrong, since he'd awoken in the hospital. The only thing that seemed right, that made any sense, was the woman sleeping below on his couch. They'd shared a few tender kisses, delicate touches, before she broke things off. She gave weak apologies, saying it would be improper for her to take advantage of him in his current state. He'd wanted desperately to press the issue, to get her to succumb to her feelings. But the look of sadness in her eyes made him back off. He swore to himself he wouldn't give up on this, on her. It was obvious the two of them were meant to be. Nick picked his way through the darkened loft. He was still unfamiliar with the layout, or the position of the light switches. He stumbled along, hands out in front of him, as he made his way towards his goal. In the moonlight, he could see the silhouette of the couch. He moved towards it, knowing she lie upon it. The one being that made sense in this odd life he'd awoken within. Nick went around to the front of the couch. There she was, his angel. His dream. In the soft luminescence of the moonlight, he could see her hair, strewn about her like a halo. Her face was relaxed in a restful slumber. His eyes moved down her body. He found it wrapped tightly in the most god-awful use humans had ever found for pink terrycloth. This woman, this one source of answers in a world of questions, was wearing the most hideous garment he'd ever seen. He tried to move closer, but found himself repulsed by the evil pink garment. The reaction was so strong, it caused his stomach to lurch. Nick reached the bathroom, amazingly without killing himself in the process, and voided his stomach of its hospital meal. He sat down, resting his head against the porcelain of the toilet rim. The idea of romance held no further interest for him. At least, it was out of the question this night. He returned to his bedroom, to his bed, alone and settled in for another uneasy bout of sleep. Again, she was there in his dreams. This time, without the robe. Or much else. Things were going well. And then, in the dream, he could feel something happening as he kissed her neck. His teeth were elongating. And it almost seemed as though they were being watched. Then, things got really strange... --------------------------- ONElist Sponsor ---------------------------- Special offer from The Science Fiction Book ClubŪ!
