Faithful -- A Forever Knight Wolf Goddess Chalenge story by Vickie Adams If you think I've lost my mind, you can find me at emeraldct@aol.com **FAITHFUL Lacroix read the personal a second time. This *wolf goddess* had an idea, maybe he could find his perfect match in the personals. Sitting at the bar he began to write. ^ Looking for loyal companionship. Person must ^ ^ be willing to adapt lifestyle to mine. Only ^ ^ requirements --> loyalty, faithfulness, and an ^ ^ obsession for the night. Wolf goddess need ^ ^ not apply. All other applicants will be considered. ^ When Lacroix finished, he ordered the ad to be run in the evening's edition. He wanted to begin screening applicants as soon as possible. Nick woke up feeling adventurous, he decided to stop at the news stand before heading to the precint. The alternative newspaper would provide adequate entertainment while providing limited exposure to the assurances in his other community. Ready to leave, Nick decided to check his machine one last time. Looking at the machine, Nick decided this would be good. Nat could read him the paper while he drove. He paid for the paper and threw it on the passenger seat. When he pulled up to Nat's building, she was already waiting on the sidewalk. " Where've you been, Nick? I figured you decided not to give me a lift." " No Nat, I just had to get a newspaper. Get in, you can read the paper to me as I drive." Nat got in and picked up the paper to avoid sitting on it. " Alternative Nights? What are you reading?" " Its a paper written by creatures of the night. It keeps me up to date with the community." " all right, I'll bite. Where should I start?" " Funny. Try the personals, I like to hear the strange requests." Nat began reading request by request. The last one she read intrigued Nick. " Nat, read me that one more time." " Looking for loyal companionship. Person must be willing to change lifestyle to fit my needs. requirements: loyalty, faithfulness, and an obsession with the night. -- Nick, you're not actually considering replying, are you?" " Oh come on Nat, I'm a vampire. It's not like a fetishist can hurt me. What if its just some lonely guy looking to play chess?" " What if its a lunatic?" " I'm not worried." Nick picked up his cell phone and dialled the newspaper. He made his reply to the ad and hung up. " I hope you know what you're doing." " Don't worry Nat, I'm a big boy." Lacroix began to read the second the fax started. " Loyal, faithful and obsessed with the night. Just what I'm looking for." He picked up the phone and dialled. Waiting for someone to pick up, he began to get impatient. < Hello? In reference to your response to my ad. Meet me tonight at midnight, in front of the old city hall.> Nick listened to the message as it was recorded. The guy sounded harmless. The clock on the wall read 11:45, Nick decided to leave early. Even if he flew he'd be cutting it close. Lacroix straightened his sleeves and stepped out of the Raven. Taking to the sky, it took only seconds to arrive at his destination. " Tracy, I've got an errand to run. If you need me, give me a call." " Okay Nick." Nick arrived at the court house only to sense the presence of another vampire. He noticed the tall gentleman standing rather aloof near the top of the stairs. Climbing them quicker than was humanly possible, Nick was standing directly behind the man when he turned around. Seeing each other caused mutual surprise. " Lacroix?" " Nicolas? What are you doing here? You are neither loyal or faithful. I'm not even sure you're obsessed with the night. You do have a sun bed." " I'm faithful. I'm loyal." " Oh really, Nicolas. What have the last 800 years been? Loyalty? I think not." " You are unfair to me - I AM loyal." " What drove you to answer my request?" " What drove you to make the request?" " Nicolas, I ran the ad because I'm alone. If you'd been loyal and faithful I wouldn't be alone, you're responsible for my desperation." Nick looked at his father and saw the truth in his words. Lacroix looked back at his son and took off. Back at the station, Nick began to think about his father's words. He picked up the phone but hung up before the line was answered. What did he say, each of Lacroix's words had been true. Giving up, Nick decide to go home. Lacroix sat at the bar with a heavy heart. Next to Fleur, Nick was his only choice for companionship. He left the club in search of some air, he found himself watching Nick through the skylight. < Maybe I should have answered the wolf goddess's ad! > Complaints etc. to: emeraldct@aol.com ~Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
