Permission to archive at the Fanfic and FTP sites. *Disclaimer Crap:* I don't own Forever Knight or any of the characters. But I will, and when I do, I'll make sure that many spin off series will be spawned about Urs the crime fighting exotic dancer, the very model of an ancient Roman general, and the drag queen with a knife (watch "Francesca" and you'll know who I'm talking about). Until that day comes, they all currently belong to Sony (I think). "Great American Sharpshooter" is )1998 to Less Than Jake (a most excellent ska band) and Sarcastic Sugar Music (ASCAP). ------------------------- "Mistaken Identities" a tale of love lost, getting over it, and well, mistaken identities written by the fatuous *EVIL* Cousin Tiff The Nightcrawler had declared it open request night. Tracy this was great. She'd request a song for Nick, her partner and friend. His girlfriend left town, leaving him for one of her doctor friends. Perhaps this song would cheer him up. It wasn't likely to happen. Nick wasn't exactly the perkier of people, even when he was happy. Tracy decided despite the fact that the song probably wouldn't cheer up her blond-haired friend, she picked up the phone and dialed CERK, anyway. "You have reached the Nightcrawler," the voice on the other end of the line said. "Hi, I don't usually listen to your show, but my friend Nick does, and I'd like to dedicate a song to him." LaCroix easily recognized the voice of his son's partner on the other line. He wondered what kind of song she would request for him. "What would you like to hear?" He asked, very much in interest. "Great American Sharpshooter, by Less Than Jake." "Would you like me to make a dedication?" "Yeah, 'To Nick, your girlfriend was a bitch.' LaCroix had never actually heard of the song, or the band before and the dedication was a bit cryptic to him. "I'll see what I can do for you, Tracy." "Wow, thanks. How did you know my name?" "I make it a point to keep a relationship with my really big fans." That comment somewhat disturbed Tracy, but she just dismissed it as she hung up the phone. During the commercial, LaCroix looked at the CD collection CERK carried. To his surprise he found it. Less Than Jake, "Hello Rockview." 'One of the daytime DJs must play it,' he thought. Nick Knight turned on his radio just in time to hear the dedication. "This next song goes out to Nick from Tracy who says your girlfriend was a bitch." Nick was shocked at that. Why would Tracy say such a thing about Nat? Natalie tuned in at the same time Nick had and was wondering as to why Tracy would say such a thing. Tracy, LaCroix, Natalie, and Nick listened to the lyrics. So you think of what you could've been When "time is all you've lost" Keeps burning through your head Now you fall asleep standing But lie awake in bed Nick could barely make out any of the lyrics, he hadn't realized that this was the kind of music that Tracy enjoyed. Perhaps he was glad that she never brought any tapes along during the nights they spent a lot of time in his car driving from crime scene to crime scene. Watch the clock drag on And think of what you should've said It's for the better You're better half is gone It's okay, you didn't need her anyway And I don't want to hear you say Nobody can take her place And what more can I say You didn't need her anyway LaCroix began to wonder about the standings on Nick's relationship with the good doctor. He hadn't spoken to his son in a while, and even though Nick never admitted to loving Natalie to him, he could tell the state of their relationship from watching his son's behavior around him. So you think of how it should've been And "it's just over" Keeps running through you head You're hearing all those words Time and time again Watch the phone all night And think of what you should've said 'Had Nick told Tracy about the argument we had' Natalie thought. 'God, she must think I'm evil to request a song like this for Nick regarding me.' It's for the better Your better half's gone It's okay You didn't need her anyway And I don't want to hear you say Nobody can take her place And what more can I say You didn't need her anyway As the song ended, Tracy called up Nick on the phone to find out if he heard the song. Nick wanted to know the meaning of that song. He quickly turned the car around and headed toward Tracy's apartment. Natalie was very angry about the song that had just played on the radio. How could Tracy mean those things about her? What did Nick tell Tracy about last week's argument? Nat had to go talk to Tracy, in person. She grabbed her coat and headed for Tracy's place. Nat arrived at Tracy's home in just under fifteen minutes, surprised to find Nick's car parked nearby. He must there to talk about that song as well. When she got to the apartment, she found Nick standing in front of Tracy's door. He was waiting for his partner to open the door. When she did, they both realized that the 20 something woman wasn't alone. Vachon and she were watching a movie. That didn't matter to either of them. She had some explaining to do. Somewhere across town Tracy Morris got off the phone with her best friend and business partner Nick Matheson. He had heard the song she requested from the Nightcrawler, and he was feeling better. The past few days had been hard when his girlfriend of 6 years left him for a doctor. The song brought some levity to his brooding. THE END ------------------------- What?!? You didn't think that Nick and Tracy are the only people in Toronto named Nick and Tracy, did you? Hehehehehe. Questions? Comments? Founding to support my next film?
