A Simply Twist of Fate 1/9 Jerusalem:1227 The night air was warm, and it was further warmed by the fires that where from the battle camps. It was the night before the battle ,and it seemed that no one was able to sleep, everyone was up partying going by the camps. Eat, drink, be merry for tomorrow we die, thought all the soldiers. A mist all the groups who where eating, drinking, and generally trying to enjoy themselves sat two twin brothers; there names where Micheal, and Nicholas de Brabant. Nicholas looked at his brother, Micheal, both of them had sat their away enough from the crowd to talk in peace, but not too away to miss the party. They had managed to get quite drunk. "So do you think we will win the battle?" He asks in his native language french. "Of course we will" answers Micheal in the same language. "We are fighting god's battle. Why wouldn't we? At least that's what the priests say." Micheal sways a little as he speaks. "Yes, that's what they say, we probably will then. Are you afraid of death? Of dying?" "I don't know, but you know what Nicholas. I will miss you till we see each other again." "What do you mean by that?" Nicholas asks. "I don't know, I've had this dream recently of us being parted, for a very long time. Just a dream." "Yes, just a dream." Neither of them give it much thought the rest of the night. ********** Nicholas could see his brother fighting, his back to him. He noticed a Muslim, coming up on Micheal, but he was to late always, to late. He tried to cry out in time, but by the time he called out Micheal's name, the dirty.... had shaded Micheal, and pushed him over the railing. The last thing Nicholas saw was Micheal's face, as he fell to his death. Nicholas knew that , that image would haunt him, for the rest of his life. How could he live, and Micheal be dead! How? "Nicholas?" A voice behind him asked. He turned to see Lord Hemmison. "Yes, my Lord?" He asked, as he stood up to great him. "I hate to be the bearer of more bad news, at the hour of your brother's death, but you must hear this news. It seems that your brother's body has disappeared, I'm sorry." He than looked at Nicholas. 'he must never know, that Micheal is now a agent of the devil, it would tear him apart' He thought. "Thank you for telling me, my Lord" He said in a hushed voice. This story is about Micheal. Disclaimers in parts 0, and 1. A Simply Twist of Fate 2/9 Paris:1279 The market place was bustling with people as Micheal picked his way through the crowd, with one mission in his mind, to pick out some half way decent food for himself and Darius to eat. It wasn't that neither of them could cook, it was Darius' idea of food and Micheal's tended to differ. Micheal had just about had enough of Darius' mold teas, thank you very much, so he had volunteered to shop, for something edible. That's what he was doing when he felt it. The 'buzz' as immortal's called it, the signature of another immortal. His hands sweated, and he felt nervous, he was young, and inexperienced, he still got nervous around other immortals. "Micheal?" A very familiar voice registered to his ears. "Fluer?" He asked, in wonder. It was her, and she was headed straight for him. Then it hit him she was too young, Unless she was the other immortal. "Micheal, you haven't age a day. So I guess this answers any questions about blood lines." Covert way of confirmation "Yes it does, so where are you staying?" He asked as they walked along together, in the market. "I sell cloths at market, here's my address. Where do you live Micheal, you've hardly said two words." She smiled at him. "I live at the Monastery, run by brother Darius. By any chance, have you seen Nicholas?" 'Oh God how do I answer' "Yes I have right after the crusades. He came home for awhile, and I also met someone." "One of us?" "Something like that. I'll see you later, and don't forget to wright." "I won't" whispered Micheal, deep in thought. Dearest Brother, It is good to have someone to talk to, to call family again, I've missed the feeling of family so much over the past 50 years. As for the last time I saw Nicholas, it was before either of us came over, so I can't tell you much but the gentleman he was traveling with, but I'm almost certain he is immortal. This gentleman, looked old in a well, aged sort of way, but not the type with a old soul. As for the gentleman in question, his name is Lucien, and he is the most perfect man I have every met. Love your, Sister Fluer. 1279 Dearest Fluer, Darius has taught me so much over the past 15 years, I don't know if I will ever be able to repay him, but it is time for me to move on. Also, I miss Nicholas, and wish to find him. His teacher may not be aware of the uniqueness of twins, so I'm off to look for him. Whether or not I find him, I'll meet you at your new home come christmas. I don't know what it is, but something keeps bugging me about Nicholas, and my bond well it will surface. As for families, I plan to keep in touch with you as much as possible since the two of us have something few have: someone they can call family. I'll miss till Christmas, Micheal Dearest Micheal, Can you believe it? I'm actually going to go to England. When I was young, I never thought that I would see anything beyond 200 miles of where I was born, and now I'm seeing so many things it's amazing. As for you, how's you're new life? I think what I miss the most about being mortal, was the ability to live one life without fear of someone finding out my secret, other than that? I love who I am, and what I am. Love your sister Fluer Dearest Fluer, My life has taken a interesting turn. I've been going around, as you know, talking to the ancients. At first, it was just to help me understand what is different about being a twin, but now it's changed. Now, I want to know everything about immortals, and I'll write it in a book. I'm not just doing this for me, but for all the immortals who will come after all the ancients are gone. They will, unless we preserve our myths, never know the stories of immortals; for that and other reasons I've decided, along with finding Nicholas, I'm going to find out about our myths. I may even discover things that may help our mortals friends. Love, Micheal. A Simply Twist of Fate 3/9 New Orleans February 22, 1903 Micheal watched the women from the window of the restaurant. He sipped the wine thoughtfully; it was his 5th drink of red wine, and he knew that he had along way to go before he stopped. His usual place, his usual hour, and only 5 drinks, but something was different tonight. Tonight there was a women's rally outside for the right to vote, and for some odd reason he wanted to join them. So for the first time in a long while, he got up, and joined the group, without being completely drunk. Micheal wasn't lonely, or unhappy far from it, he had wonderful friends, and a sister. But it seemed that part of him was so lonely, that the only thing that would make the loneliness go away was to get drunk. He knew it was bad for him, but he never seemed to be able to completely stop. Micheal walked out onto the square, and listened to the speaker for the Women's Suffrage Movement. Micheal smiled, you didn't get to be was old as he was, without having earned a healthy respect for woman. Then it hit him, as it always did when he was near one of his kind. There was another immortal at the rally. He scanned the crowd, for the other immortal. She was standing a couple of yards, away looking around, just like him; she had thin light brown curly hair, and violet eyes. She wasn't that big either, nor was she fat, skinny was more like it. When there eyes met, she approached him. "Emily Johnson, you here for the hunting?" Emily looked at him nervously, she really wasn't up to a fight; especially from someone by her own limited scrutiny of quickenings, was quite old. "Micheal de Brabant, just here to cheer you ladies on. You are here at the rally for The Suffrage Movement?" "I am indeed, and you sir de Brabant, what interest have you on this gathering?" Her southern accent was quite obvious to Micheal's ears. "I noticed your gathering, and thought I'd come to see what you had to say. I am a believer that woman and men are on equal footing, at least mentally. So you come from the south?" "Yes I do. And you were do you come from?" She smiled although he was a little drunk, he impressed her for some unknown reason. She seemed drawn to him. "France, well at least that's where I was born." So engrossed in each other they didn't notice the cops, till they where right on them. One of the cops began pulling Emily away, she showed no fear. Micheal had no intention of letting him put her in jail, and if he could help a few others, the more the Merrier. "Wait officer, that's my wife!" "Oh, yeah what's she doing here then?" The cop said. "What does that matter to you? She's with me, and you will leave her alone." Micheal purposely let some of his accent come through. "I don't care if she's Mother Teresa, she's coming with me." He began to take Emily away. She looked at Micheal with gratitude. "You know what officer, your an idiot. This whole damn country is full of idiots! You call yourself a democracy, and your women can't even vote. You know women are miracle workers. Joan of Arce was chosen by god to end the 100 year war, and she was a woman." Micheal opened his mouth as if he was about to go on, but the cop put up his hands, and went somewhere else. Emily smiled at Micheal, as she led him home. One of her friends said, as they where walking to his house, that he was welcome back any time sober or not. Thanks for all the feed back everyone. A Simple Twist of Fate 4/9 4 months had passed, since Emily had met Micheal at the rally, it had been a life changing experience for both of them. Micheal had been one of they worst acholic she had ever met, but since they met, he had been able to stop, almost all together. They talked about everything, life, how they crossed, family, and Micheal told her about Nicholas his long lost brother. Her life had never been more complete, and apparently neither had Micheal's. Micheal still sometimes felt the loneliness of Nicholas absence, but not to the extent of before. It was at the anniversary marker that they had the toughest, and most understanding night in their courtship. It had all started out as a nice relaxed evening, but it soon became apparent to Emily that something was wrong with Micheal. "Micheal, what's wrong?" "Nothing, nothing's wrong." He said, but his voice was low, and he seemed to holding back something. "No something's wrong. Tell me what it is Micheal." She touched his arm, he was tense. "Micheal are you having withdrawal systems?" He nodded his head. "I shouldn't be Emily, it's been over a month, since I was even tempted." "Well, it's a good thing we threw out all the red wine." She smiled at him. He smiled back. "That's what I like about you, Emily you always can make me laugh." "So what else is wrong?" She looked straight at him. "Nothing!" He yelled. "Nothing, well I think there is tell me what it is Micheal. You know you can't fool me." She looked straight at him. "I know Emily. It's just so frustrating, right now!" "Tell me what's frustrating." She looked straight at him. He sank down to the floor, his back to the wall. His eyes began to water. "It's just this feeling of being closed in, and having no reason for it. Tonight I keep getting these contradictory feelings." He began to sob in earnest. "Anddd..this craving, I can't get rid of it tonight. And I haven't had one, this bad in three months! ." Emily put her arms around him, and held him close. "I know Micheal" She put her head on his shoulder, and held him through the rest of the night. "That it's nerves, over having her approving of you. I know that Emily." He smiled at her as he rung the door bell. Fluer answered the door. She smiled kindly at Micheal, noticing his nervous behavior. "Micheal, and this must be Emily?" She thoroughly scrutinizes Emily. She already liked her, but seeing Micheal's nerves, it was too tempting not to play with them, just a bit. She opened the door to let them in. "So your the woman, that Micheal talks about so much?" "Yes I am, and believe me if I had a family to talk to, I would be talking about him as well." "Would you? For how long? When would you decide that you've had enough fun with him, and then leave me to pick up the pieces?" She looked straight at Emily as she said it. "Fluer, Emily's not like that!" Micheal said, as he put the dish down on the table, before he dropped it. "Oh, isn't she Micheal? I remember a couple of people that have hurt you badly, how do you know she won't do the same? You don't, that's why I'm here to make sure it doesn't happen again." Emily choose that moment to butt in. "Now look here, I know that you care for Micheal very dearly, but you have no right to assume that I am like those other women. I'm not, Micheal means the world to me, and if I could meet anyone of those who has used him, so that you are so mistrusting, and he so distraught by the time I met him; I would kill them, every last one of them." Fluer looked at her for a moment, then smiled. "I like her. Micheal, I think that you picked well." Micheal let out a breath, and Emily smiled at him. "So what did you bring, you know how much I love your cooking." Fluer smiled at her brother, as dinner was set on the table. Micheal was able to relax after the confrontation, and enjoy himself, for the most part. Although some of the stories, Fluer told where embarrassing. All centering around, of course his fear of heights. By the time the table was cleared, he was almost completely relaxed. "So Micheal, you want to do Christmas Carols?" Fluer asked, her eyes sparkling. If there where any doubts in her mind, about Emily at first, there where none now. "Sure, I'll do the piano, Emily you want to sing?" He asked, his eyes sparkling. Micheal looked at his old room, he hadn't been back here in oh, 200 years at least, but it did not bring back memories tonight. He was just to nervous, tomorrow he would be married to Emily, finally to have the kind of gratification they wanted. Emily and himself, for some reason had decided to wait until they where married. They had planned to marry, they just wanted to make sure, and closeness without the final act, was proof enough. Besides, what was there to wait for if, they didn't as Em said. "Micheal?" The sound of Duncan's voice. His best friend, and bestman, didn't startle him. He had been aware of him, for a couple of seconds. "Yes, Duncan. I'm nervous." He sighed, boy was he nervous. "You know Micheal, it will be even worse if you don't get some sleep; then tomorrow, you really will forget your lines." "Thanks, that's just what I wanted to hear, 'Mac'" Micheal sighed. "It's just, that I've got giant butterflies in my stomach, how can I sleep with that?" "Easy" Duncan said "you close your eyes, and count sheep." Micheal sighed, "I hope I can Duncan, good night and, thank you." "You can thank me, by not forgetting your lines tomorrow." Duncan said, as he closed the door. Micheal never saw his face, full of wishful thinking. Emily looked out the window, again. Tomorrow was her wedding, something she had waited for, for a long time, so of course she was nervous. "Emily?" said two voices. "Yes?" She said, as Sarah and Fluer entered the room. "How are you doing Emily?" Asked Fluer. "My nerves are whacked, other than that I'm fine." she smiled, at Fluer. "I bet" said Sarah. "When I met my first vampire, other than me, I was so nervous; so many what if's." She smiled. "That help?" "A little, thank you Sarah." Emily smiled at her. "You know you remind me of Micheal, so much sometimes, it's amazing, we truly raised you well." Emily went up, and embraced her. "Sarah hasn't told you her news." Said Fluer. "What news?" Asked Emily. "It's not that important." Said Sarah blushing slightly. "Oh, yes, it is, if Fluer thinks it's important, it's important." Said Emily. "So what is it?" "It took me an hour to get it out of her, so I'll just tell you, Emily. Sarah has been excepted, to the Investigation Department of the Enforcers!" Said Fluer "Sarah! That's wonderful, aren't you the youngest member?" Emily said, with such pride in her voice. "Yes, well at least in the Invsetgative Offices." She blushed. "Sarah that means your an achiever, not someone they have to keep an eye on." Said Fluer, " and we are all, very proud. "Well, we'll see you tomorrow, Emily. Good night."
