Takes place after 'Dying for Fame.' Will be archived with all the others at my site http://www.geocities.com/knightwalker1228/index.html. Praise, comments, etc gratefully devoured. ~~~ Sunglasses at Night (1/1) Toronto, 1992 Schanke looked over at his partner, a little uneasily. Nick was concentrating on his driving from behind a pair of thick lenses. "How can you see?" he blurted out. I wear my sunglasses at night So I can so I can Watch you live and breathe your storylines "I mean, we all know you're Joe Cool, but come on! What, did the all the stage and spotlight of the 'Rebecca' case go to your head?" He was only half-joking, Nick knew. "I can, and that's all that matters," replied Nick lightly. Sometimes, when he had overfed-- he thought grimly. --the lights of the city became intolerably bright, too bright for his hypersensitive eyes to handle. And I wear my sunglasses at night So I can so I can Keep track of the visions in my eyes Schanke shrugged and settled back in his seat. Nick was a weirdo, no question about it. "Y'know, I don't know why I bother talking to you sometimes, Knight. It's not like you talk back. I don't think I've ever heard you talk about anything except work. Not your family--if you have any--not where you grew up... You've never even told me how you and Janette met." While she's deceiving me It cuts my security She's got control of me... "A long time ago, Schanke." "So you guys go way back?" "Oh, way back. Way way back." I turn to her and say Don't switch the blade on the guy in shades, oh no Don't masquerade with the guy in shades, oh no I can't believe it Schanke looked at his partner curiously. "Like high school?" "Like forever." You got it made with the guy in shades, oh no And I wear my sunglasses at night So I can so I can "And..." "And what, Schanke?" Nick didn't mean for his voice to sound so hard, but his partner either hadn't noticed or, what was more likely--Schanke had a knack for picking up on things that most people didn't give him credit for--he was simply ignoring Nick's uninviting tone. "Were you guys ever a couple?" "For quite a long time..." Forget my name while you collect your claim And I wear my sunglasses at night So I can so I can Before Schanke could continue, Nick added, "We were married once." Why had he said that?! Well, it wasn't exactly a lie, now, was it? His partner's mouth had dropped almost to his shoes. "Married?" he repeated, disbelieving. "What happened?" Nick's gaze was fixed on the road in front of them, but he was almost radiating embarrassment and pain. "She woke up one day and decided that she was tired of me." See the light that's right before my eyes While she's deceiving me She cuts my security Has got control of me Schanke whistled under his breath. He shook his head, unable and unwilling to contemplate that much pain on the part of another who obviously did not want his sympathy. I turn to her and say Don't switch the blade on the guy in shades, oh no Don't masquerade with the guy in shades, oh no I can't believe it! "She was tired of me..." Don't be afraid of the guy in shades, oh no It can't escape you 'Cause you got it made with the guy in shades, oh no Schanke looked out the passenger-side window. "I'm sorry, man. I shoulda kept my mouth shut." "It was a long time ago, Schank." Nick's lips twisted into something resembling a smile, but it disappeared as quickly as it had come. "Ancient history." I said I wear my sunglasses I wear my sunglasses at night Wear my sunglasses at night... ~Finis--October 7, 2004~ April French daomir_darkfell@yahoo.com ~Knightwalker: Forever Knight Fan Fiction -- http://www.geocities.com/knightwalker1228/index.html ~The Corvina: Original Fiction, Poetry and Fan Fiction -- http://www.geocities.com/runeshard/index.html "I move the stars for no one." -- LaCroix (via David Bowie) --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!?
